Thoughtful pairings begin with balance. A cigar and a whiskey should make room for each other rather than compete for attention.
Consider intensity first. A lighter cigar can be overwhelmed by a forceful pour, while a richer cigar may pair beautifully with something that has more body.
Aroma, texture and finish also play a role. Notes of wood, baking spice, coffee or dried fruit may complement—or pleasantly contrast with—one another.
The most interesting pairing is often the one you discover by slowing down and paying attention. There is no single right answer.
